Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZ)

The Nitrate Pollution Prevention Regulations 2008 has been introduced to implement the European Communities Nitrates Directive and to reduce nitrogen losses from agricultural to water. The Directive has designated areas where nitrogen pollution is a major environmental factor. These areas are known as Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZs). Statistics from DEFRA suggest that 68% of England has been designated as an Nitrate Vulnerable Zone.

Compliance with these rules is a Cross Compliance Statutory Management Requirement (SMR) under the Single Payment Scheme (SPS). To avoid SPS penalties the NVZ rules must be adhered to.

CMS UK Services can provide the following advice and record keeping on:

  • The NVZ regulations and farm compliance.
  • NVZ planning.
  • Livestock loading calculations.
  • Calculating existing and future slurry storage capacities.
  • Producing non spreadable and spreadable nitrogen risk maps.
  • Nutrient management planning.
  • Manure Management Planning.
  • NVZ derogation farms advice, planning and submission.

To avoid SPS penalty deductions speak to a Rural Services representative contact CMS UK today on 01270 522645, to become NVZ compliant.
