Upland Entry Level Stewardship (UELS)

Upland Entry Level Stewardship (UELS) is a new strand of ELS offering a higher level of payment in return for an increased level of environmental management of land within the Severely Disadvantaged Areas (SDAs).

To enter a five year UELS or to upgrade your existing ELS agreement into an UELS you will need to obtain 62 points per hectare for the SDA land entered into the scheme (23 points for land parcels above the Moorland Line which are 15 ha or more).

Please find below UELS payment details per year:

Parcels below the Moorland line = £62/ha
Parcels above the Moorland Line and less than 15ha = £62/ha
Parcels above the Moorland Line and are 15ha or more = £23/ha
All land entered into the UELS agreement that is not in SDA will receive the standard ELS payment rate of £30/ha.
